Summer recap
It's been a full summer for Renovare! We're happy to share that:
We returned to teaching weekly string classes at the Grafton Correctional Institution (GCI) at the beginning of July. It has been so good to be back learning with these men each Wednesday. If you haven't already, check out Lalia's blog post about her first time going to prison.
We've been able to perform 'Summer Serenade' concerts all around Northeast Ohio, including at:
the Northeast Reintegration Center (NERC, the women's prison in downtown Cleveland), where Renovare was the first event back inside since before the pandemic.
Grafton Correctional Institution (GCI)
Millikin Neighborhood Park
Glenview Park
Building Hope in the City's summer kids camp.
St. Vincent Charity Medical Center
Lalia completed trainings through the Suzuki Association of the Americas. These trainings help strengthen musicians' teaching to be more comprehensive and effective. This will be helpful for Renovare’s weekly strings classes at Grafton and for a possible second program that we are exploring for 2022.
Rebecca completed Documentary Songwriters training. Documentary Songwriting is a method of co-writing music with anyone, musician or otherwise, to tell their story through song. We’re excited about the ways we can incorporate Documentary Songwriting into our programming, especially as we seek to amplify voices that often go unheard and increase understanding and empathy in our community.
Both Lalia and Rebecca have completed trainings (and have more yet upcoming!) from Building Hope in the City. From "Refugee 101" to "Understanding Poverty" and more, we are grateful for these opportunities to continue deepening our understanding of realities we are working to impact.
